Staying Healthy While Living Abroad
Start Here
For many current and future expats, Panama is not brand new. You may have visited several times, taken a Black Expats in Panama relocation tour, joined a Facebook or WhatsApp groups, talked with people already living there, or started imagining what daily life could look like. Those experiences can be incredibly helpful for understanding the country, the culture, and the relocation process. This guide is designed to build on that foundation by focusing specifically on the healthcare questions that often need more time, detail, and plain-language explanation.

This first version of My Expat Healthcare Guide is meant to meet you wherever you are in the process. Maybe you are already in Panama. Maybe you are close to relocating. Maybe you have visited enough times to know you are interested, but you still need plain answers about doctors, insurance, prescriptions, emergencies, Medicare, and what to plan for before making the move.
The goal is to build this guide around the real needs, preferences, and questions of Black expats and future expats. Your input will help shape future sections, interviews, blog posts, checklists, and updates so the Guide reflects what people are actually trying to understand before and after relocating.
Healthcare, Health, and Wellness

Welcome to My Expat Healthcare Guide: Panama City—a practical resource created to help retirees and future expats make informed decisions about healthcare, health, and wellness while building a life abroad.

Whether you're already calling Panama home or just beginning to plan your move, this guide is designed to help you understand how healthcare works in Panama City, prepare for routine and emergency care, manage prescriptions and insurance questions, and support healthy aging abroad. It also recognizes that culture, history, and lived experience shape how people seek care, ask questions, build trust, and make health decisions. Our goal is to help you feel informed, prepared, and confident as you navigate your health and wellness in Panama.
